Tom Felton

Tom Felton

Tom Felton is mostly known for playing the evil villain, Draco Malfoy, in the Harry Potter series. Now, throughout the past years the writer of the Harry Potter book, JK Rowling, has posted very transphobic tweets. Now with Tom, he was seen to like one of those harmful tweets. Some people claim that it was an accident, and he wasn’t looking, but Tom doesn’t like many tweets. Once he realised he was getting called out he was quick to unlike the tweet, but didn’t apologise to the people he has offended.

Back in September or October an interviewer asked Tom Felton what his opinions are about what JK Rowling has said about the trans community. If you watch the video I provide he says that he doesn’t have an opinion on it.

Silence is violence. Many people in the Harry Potter community are LGBTQ+, and to see your favourite actor say that he doesn’t have an opinion on it, it’s very harmful.
Many of his fans claim that he isn’t comfortable talking about it. He shouldn’t be uncomfortable with trans people. If he is, he is transphobic because trans men are real men, and trans women are real women.

Finally, if you still look at what Tom Felton is doing, he is currently supporting against animal abuse organisation. Which he should, animal abuse is wrong in so many ways. How can he support that, and put so much heart into it, but not even acknowledge the trans community for his actions.

I, Miss Analysis ASMR, are not trans myself, and I’ve seen trans people argue over whether or not he is transphobic or not. If some trans people say that they were offended by his actions, then they deserve an apology. As an LGBTQ+ ally I try my best to support the community as much as I can and if it’s not supporting an actor for his transphobic actions, then that’s what I’ll do.
